Lok Sabha Adjourns Amid Opposition Protests Over NEET and Temple Theft

The Lok Sabha adjourned until noon on Monday, August 10, seconds after reconvening for the final week of its Monsoon Session. The disruption was caused by Opposition benches protesting the NEET paper leak, police actions against protesters on July 20, and a controversy involving the theft of Ram Temple donations.

Despite the early adjournment, the House is scheduled to introduce several key pieces of legislation later in the day. Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026, which seeks to rename the state to Keralam. Other planned introductions include the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026, by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy.

Concurrent with the protests, Congress MPs K.C. Venugopal and Manish Tewari moved adjournment motions. Venugopal requested a high-level inquiry into the Ram Temple donation theft row, while Tewari sought a discussion on framing a new Anti-Defection Law.
