Waste Management Names John Morris CEO After Jim Fish Retirement

Waste Management announced that John Morris, the company's current president, will become chief executive officer on January 4. Morris succeeds Jim Fish, who is retiring after ten years in the role. Morris is a waste industry veteran who began his career as a driver and previously served as the company's chief operating officer and chief strategy officer.

Jim Fish led the company for a decade, overseeing a period of significant financial expansion. Under his leadership, annual revenue grew from $13.6 billion in 2016 to $25.2 billion in 2025. His tenure was marked by major acquisitions, including the $4.6 billion purchase of Advanced Disposal in 2020 and the $7.2 billion acquisition of Stericycle in 2024.

Fish will resign from the board of directors but will continue to serve in an advisory capacity until mid-February. Upon taking the CEO position, Morris will join the board of directors. Kathleen Mazzarella, chair of the board, endorsed the appointment, noting that Morris possesses a deep understanding of the business and culture based on three decades of industry experience.
