Delhi Development Authority Approves Master Plan 2047

The Delhi Development Authority approved the Master Plan for Delhi-2047 (MPD-2047) on August 12, 2026, to guide the future growth of the national capital. Chaired by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the meeting shifted the previous 2041 deadline to 2047 to align with the central government's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The plan establishes a roadmap for sustainable urban growth, affordable housing, and environmental sustainability.

Key provisions include a Transit-Oriented Development policy to increase housing supply along metro and rail corridors and a ban on concrete structures in the core Yamuna floodplain. The authority also approved a new policy granting redevelopment rights to old or structurally deficient DDA-built two-storey residential units, placing them on par with vacant plots. To reduce procedural delays, the DDA amended the Unified Building Bye-Laws 2016 to remove the requirement for several No Objection Certificates.

Additional approvals included a land-use change in Narela for a 19.63-hectare Metro depot on the Rithala-Kundli corridor, alongside other institutional and utility projects. The Master Plan now moves to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final approval and notification.
