APC Candidate Wins Dawakin Kudu Bye-Election in Kano State

The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a decisive victory in the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa State Constituency bye-election in Kano State. Candidate Hussaini Yusuf Datti won the seat with 22,890 votes, far outpacing opponents from the Peoples Redemption Party, which received 270 votes, the Peoples Democratic Party with 180 votes, the Action Peoples Party with 53 votes, and the Labour Party with 39 votes.

The election was held to fill a vacancy in the Kano State House of Assembly created when Shuaibu Rabiu Nagoggo vacated his seat to join the House of Representatives. Nagoggo's transition followed the death of Alhaji Muhammad Hassan, the former representative for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, who died in April 2026.

Prior to the vote, the African Democratic Congress withdrew due to an ongoing leadership dispute in court, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress withdrew to conserve resources for the 2027 general elections. The Independent National Electoral Commission reported that while the voting process was peaceful and seamless, the exercise saw low voter turnout, which officials attributed to the nature of state constituency elections.
