UNIFIL Reports Movement Restrictions After Lebanon-Israel Agreement
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon reports blocked patrol routes in southern Lebanon following a US-sponsored framework agreement to reduce border hostilities.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reports that barriers and debris are restricting its freedom of movement in southern Lebanon. These obstacles have temporarily halted essential safety operations and patrols, although the force continues to monitor violations of Security Council resolution 1701 and facilitate humanitarian access.
These challenges follow a US-sponsored framework agreement signed Friday between Beirut and Tel Aviv designed to reduce border hostilities and enable a phased Israeli withdrawal. The agreement follows an Israeli military offensive that began on March 2. According to the Lebanon Health Ministry, that offensive has killed more than 4,240 people and displaced over 1 million individuals.
