Wong Chen Resigns Subang Seat Over Funding Dispute

Wong Chen, the Member of Parliament for Subang and a member of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), resigned from his seat on August 10, 2026. He submitted his resignation letter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul the previous Wednesday, with both parties agreeing to keep the matter private until the official announcement to allow parliamentary officers time to process the vacancy.

The resignation follows a dispute that began in May 2026, when Wong and several other PKR backbenchers were barred from accessing the MyKhas portal, which manages special constituency funding and public project applications. This restriction occurred after Wong, Rodziah Ismail, and Lee Chean Chung attended the launch of Parti Bersama Malaysia, a party led by former PKR leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Wong cited disillusionment with the Madani government's pace of institutional reform alongside the funding dispute. Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil previously defended the restrictions, stating that constituency funds belong to the public rather than individual MPs. Wong's departure marks the third parliamentary seat lost by PKR in less than four months, following the exits of Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
