Warren Buffett Warns of Market Gambling Amid Alphabet Investment

Warren Buffett cautioned that investors are in a gambling mood while Berkshire Hathaway expanded its Alphabet Inc. stake to nearly $38 billion.

Warren Buffett, Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, warned that current equity market valuations are driven by a gambling mood among investors. He stated that this environment may lead to silly pricing for many assets, though he clarified that this does not mean investing itself is terrible.

Despite his general caution, Berkshire Hathaway aggressively increased its stake in Alphabet Inc. throughout 2026. The position now represents approximately 12.6% of the conglomerate's public equity holdings and is valued at nearly $38 billion. Buffett noted that while some hyperscalers are forced into heavy AI capital spending as part of a game they do not want to play, he remains comfortable with the Alphabet investment.

In contrast to Berkshire's strategic moves, Oracle Corporation is facing increased financial pressure from its AI build-out costs and exposure to OpenAI. Bond markets have signaled higher risk for the company, with credit default swap pricing implying a 3.2% one-year default risk. S&P Global Ratings recently downgraded Oracle's debt to BBB-, citing limited financial flexibility compared to its industry competitors.
