U.S. Blockade Cripples Iranian Economy and Military Funding

U.S. Central Command reports a naval blockade and frozen assets have crippled Iran's economy, causing military pay failures and increased domestic unrest.

A U.S.-led naval blockade and the freezing of $350 million in cryptocurrency assets have severely crippled the Iranian economy, according to U.S. Central Command. The measures have prevented the export of at least $25 billion in crude oil, driving inflation toward 90% and causing the national currency to collapse.

This financial strain has forced the Iranian government to withhold salaries, pensions, and benefits for workers in the security, energy, manufacturing, and construction sectors. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is currently unable to pay its troops, leading Iran-aligned militia groups across the region to divert their own soldiers' pay back to the IRGC to sustain the organization.

Internal instability has grown alongside the economic crisis. In the southeastern provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan, separatist attacks have killed at least eight security personnel over a three-week period. Despite this internal fragility, U.S. Central Command reports a resurgence in Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf and increased aggression against tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
