Anwar Ibrahim and Li Qiang Strengthen Malaysia-China Strategic Ties

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim concluded a three-day working visit to China on September 24, centering on a bilateral meeting with Premier Li Qiang in Hangzhou. The leaders focused on expanding a comprehensive strategic partnership through high-impact trade, investment, and the semiconductor industry. They specifically discussed leveraging high-quality Belt and Road cooperation to advance mega infrastructure projects, including the East Coast Rail Link.

During the talks at the West Lake State Guest House, Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia's adherence to the one-China policy and expressed support for China's initiatives regarding artificial intelligence governance and its role in safeguarding the interests of the Global South. He described the current relationship as having "transcended the framework of conventional diplomacy," attributing the progress to trust and sincerity.

Beyond the bilateral meetings, Anwar attended the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai and the Fifth Global Digital Trade Expo in Hangzhou. He also thanked the Chinese government for providing consular assistance to Malaysian citizens affected by a recent disaster in Tibet.
