Google Claims Fix for Pixel Severe Idle Battery Drain

Google announced it has resolved a bug causing severe idle battery drain on several Pixel devices, marking the problem as fixed on its public issue tracker. The company identified the technical cause as "Severe Idle Drain: kepler_spi_irq_handler & gnss_ipc Suspend Aborts," a flaw users believe prevented devices from entering the power-saving Deep Doze mode.

The company stated that the patch was included in the July 2026 software update for the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 families. Users of the Pixel 8a and Pixel 9a are expected to receive the fix by September.

Despite the official announcement, many users on Reddit and the Google Issue Tracker report that the battery drain continues after installing the update. Skepticism among the community has grown because the July patch notes did not explicitly list the battery fix, and Google has not yet clarified whether devices in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 series will receive a similar resolution.
