Azerbaijan Trade with US Falls as Georgia Trade Surges
The Government of Azerbaijan reported a 24.8% drop in trade turnover with the United States alongside a 42.3% increase in trade with Georgia.
The Government of Azerbaijan reported divergent trade trends during the first nine months of 2026, seeing a sharp decline in commerce with the United States while expanding ties with Georgia.
Trade turnover with the United States fell by 24.8% to $759.55 million, a decrease of $250.4 million compared to the same period in 2025. This contraction was primarily driven by a 29.4% drop in Azerbaijani imports from the U.S., which fell to $679.25 million. However, Azerbaijani exports to the U.S. grew by approximately 66%, reaching $80.3 million, leaving Azerbaijan with a trade deficit of $598.94 million with the American market.
In contrast, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Georgia rose to $887.95 million from January to September 2026, marking a 42.3% increase over the previous year. Despite the bilateral decline with the U.S., Azerbaijan's total foreign trade turnover grew by 5.2% to $37.21 billion, resulting in an overall foreign trade surplus of $10.52 billion.
