SpaceX Secures $946 Million NASA Contract for Dragon Flights

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. expanded its contract with NASA to conduct three additional crewed Dragon flights to the International Space Station through 2030. The agreement is valued at up to $946 million, increasing the total number of operational flights under the Commercial Crew Transportation Capability contract to 17. This latest deal brings the company's total earnings from NASA to $5.92 billion.

Under the terms of the agreement, SpaceX will manage ground, launch, in-orbit, return, and recovery operations, while also providing cargo transportation and lifeboat capabilities. The company is currently preparing for the Crew 13 launch in October and Crew 14 in the spring. However, reports indicate SpaceX is winding down the Dragon program to prioritize the development of its Starship rocket for future missions.

NASA continues to rely on two commercial partners for space station access. While SpaceX maintains current operations, Boeing Defense, Space & Security is expected to resume crewed Starliner missions in the third quarter of 2027.
