ADC and NDC Members Challenge Primary Results in Kano and Lagos
Aspirants and executives within the ADC and NDC are challenging primary election results in Kano and Lagos, alleging fraud and financial misconduct.
Internal crises have erupted within two Nigerian political parties as members challenge the legitimacy of primary elections for the 2027 general elections. In Kano, Wada Masu and a group of African Democratic Congress (ADC) aspirants rejected the May 21 primaries, claiming the vote was fraudulent. Masu asserted that the elections purportedly took place while aspirants were still undergoing the party's screening process, noting that the Elections Committee had suggested a consensus meeting on May 22, which contradicts the claim that a vote had already occurred.
Simultaneously, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is facing a leadership battle in Lagos. Deputy Chairman Akinwande Osikominu accused State Chairman King Okuneye of manipulating primary reports and utilizing a secret parallel election committee established by the national body. Osikominu further alleged that Okuneye diverted party funds into personal accounts and abandoned the state secretariat while residing outside Lagos.
While NDC officials including Juliet Ojudu and Emmanuel Okibie warned against imposing candidates who lack grassroots support, a source close to Okuneye dismissed the allegations as baseless claims from candidates who lost the primaries. Both the ADC and NDC aggrieved members have called upon their respective national leaderships to investigate the irregularities to prevent total party collapse before the 2027 cycle.
