Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly announced a contribution of up to $34 million from the Strategic Response Fund to support Pratt & Whitney Canada. Speaking at the Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom on July 21, 2026, Joly detailed the funding as part of a larger $275 million project to modernize the company's aircraft engine manufacturing centre of excellence in Longueuil, Quebec.
The investment aims to maintain 650 high-value jobs and strengthen Canada's industrial base. Joly stated the initiative aligns with the national Defence Industrial Strategy to advance sovereign capabilities and enhance competitiveness in the global engine market.
Following the announcement, Joly traveled to London on July 22, 2026, to participate in a hybrid discussion at Chatham House. The session focused on Canada's industrial strategy and middle-power diplomacy, followed by a media teleconference for the Press Gallery to discuss these strategic priorities.
