Bolsonaro Family Secures Major Gains in Brazilian Elections

The Bolsonaro family significantly expanded its political influence in the Brazilian Congress following recent elections. While former President Jair Bolsonaro is currently serving a prison sentence, his immediate family secured several key legislative positions to maintain the family's political presence.

Michelle Bolsonaro and son Carlos Bolsonaro won seats in the Senate, while younger son Jair Renan and brother Renato Bolsonaro were elected to the Chamber of Deputies. These victories coincide with a surge for the Liberal Party, which is poised to nearly double its Senate presence to 28 seats. This represents the largest representation for any single party at the start of a legislature since the adoption of Brazil's 1988 Constitution.

The family intends to leverage this increased legislative power to launch a conservative offensive against the Supreme Court, the institution that convicted Jair Bolsonaro.
