Apple Sets October 16 Pre-orders for iPhone Duo Foldable
Apple will open pre-orders for the iPhone Duo foldable on October 16, despite production challenges and a high starting price of $1,999.
Apple Inc. will open pre-orders for the iPhone Duo, its first foldable device, on Friday, October 16, at 8:00 a.m. ET. To manage expected shortages and streamline the checkout process, the company is introducing a Get ready window starting October 12. This allows customers to pre-select colors, storage capacity, carriers, and payment methods via the Apple Store app or online store.
The device carries a premium starting price of $1,999 in the United States and £1,999 in the United Kingdom. These prices align with a niche market strategy, as the company targets a production volume of 6 to 8 million units for 2026. This is significantly lower than the 20 to 30 million units typically produced for flagship Pro or Pro Max models.
Production is currently hampered by a complex assembly process and strict quality standards, resulting in assembly yields of just over 60%. Suppliers estimate it may take six months or more for these yields to reach a mature level.
