vivo and OPPO Launch Android 17 Based Operating Systems
vivo and OPPO introduced OriginOS 7 and ColorOS 17, both based on Android 17, featuring deep AI integration and system performance optimizations.
Major smartphone manufacturers vivo and OPPO have unveiled new operating systems based on Android 17, focusing on artificial intelligence and system efficiency. vivo introduced OriginOS 7, which utilizes the Blue River Smooth Engine and Atomic Animation 7.0 to improve rendering and interface fluidity. A key feature is the Blue Heart Small V AI, which now includes a Pro Mode for complex tasks like job hunting and travel planning. The OS will ship on the vivo X500 series, iQOO 16, and iQOO Pad Ultra, with a limited preview program for 1,000 users in India running from September 16 to 20, 2026.
OPPO announced ColorOS 17, featuring a Fluid Design and the Polar Light and Tidal Engines. The company claims these updates reduce runtime memory usage by 25% and increase background application retention by 55.6%. AI enhancements include the Da Vinci Visual Understanding Model for photo editing and anti-fraud tools designed to detect AI face-swapping during video calls. ColorOS 17 also emphasizes cross-device connectivity with wearables and vehicles.
Rollout schedules differ between the two companies. While vivo has begun its Indian preview, OPPO will start its stable rollout in China on October 8, 2026, for the Find X9, Find N6, OnePlus 15, and Realme GT8 Pro. OPPO plans to expand the update through December, with some older models receiving it in the first quarter of 2027.
