Palantir Signs $300 Million USDA Contract to Secure Farmland

Palantir Technologies Inc. entered into a $300 million Blanket Purchase Agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture to modernize service delivery and secure American farmland. The partnership expands upon previous collaborations, including the Landmark software platform and the Farmer Bridge Assistance Program, which distributed over $4.4 billion to farmers in February 2026.

The agreement focuses on the National Farm Security Action Plan and the One Farmer, One File initiative. Palantir will develop operational software to consolidate fragmented legacy systems into a single platform, reducing administrative burdens for field staff and accelerating payments to farmers. The technology is also intended to improve supply chain resilience and protect agricultural programs from fraud and abuse.

Beyond administrative modernization, the contract specifically addresses geopolitical risks. The USDA aims to manage and combat the acquisition of U.S. land by Chinese-linked agribusinesses, such as Smithfield and Syngenta. This strategic focus follows the 2017 acquisition of Syngenta by ChemChina, which granted the Chinese state control over significant seed and agrochemical portfolios in the U.S. While the Foundation for Defense of Democracies characterizes this ownership as a national security threat, some reports indicate that China's physical farmland footprint in the U.S. decreased by 27 percent between 2021 and 2023. Following the announcement, Palantir's stock rose 3.58 percent to $151.20 on the Nasdaq.
