William Ruto Accuses Uhuru Kenyatta of Betrayal and Sabotage
President William Ruto accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of funding opposition figures and betraying a political pact during a development tour of the North Rift region.
President William Ruto launched a series of political and personal attacks against retired President Uhuru Kenyatta during a development tour of the North Rift region. Speaking in Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties, Ruto accused Kenyatta of funding opposition figures to undermine the current administration's development agenda, claiming critics are driven by raw jealousy over government efforts to distribute resources equitably.
Ruto specifically targeted Kenyatta for betraying a political agreement that allegedly promised a succession plan of 10 years for Kenyatta followed by 10 years for Ruto. He described the former president as a deceitful character and a conman, alleging that Kenyatta misled political leaders and urged Kenyans not to vote for him during the 2022 election in favor of Raila Odinga.
While defending his administration's record on affordable housing, fertilizer subsidies, and healthcare, Ruto asserted that his government is fixing systemic failures inherited from Kenyatta's tenure. He dismissed the United Opposition as a passing cloud and warned that he would deal with those sponsoring efforts to obstruct his leadership. Ruto concluded by urging Kenyatta to retire from politics and promising to end the politics of hatred and tribalism in the August 2027 general election.
