Syria Rejects Saudi Request to Deploy Militants to Yemen

The Syrian government, led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, rejected a formal request from Saudi Arabia to organize and deploy Syrian militants to fight in Yemen. Saudi Arabia spent several months negotiating for combatants to address operational needs as the Yemeni Armed Forces made territorial gains along the Red Sea coast and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, including the seizure of strategic heights in Lahij and Perim Island.

Syrian officials declined the proposal, stating the government is focused on its own military organization process and does not intend to enter the conflict as a third party. Despite the formal state rejection, the HTS regime reportedly will not prevent individuals from traveling to Yemen as mercenaries on their own initiative.

This diplomatic decision comes as Syria faces internal unrest and protests triggered by recent hikes in gasoline and diesel prices.
