Jeff Bezos Files to Sell $4.1 Billion in Amazon Shares
Jeff Bezos filed to sell 15 million Amazon shares valued at $4.1 billion following the company's market capitalization exceeding $3 trillion.
Jeff Bezos, the founder and executive chair of Amazon, filed to sell approximately 15 million shares of company stock valued at roughly $4.1 billion. The transaction was executed via Morgan Stanley under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan established on November 14, 2025, which permits the sale of up to 15 million shares through February 26, 2027.
The filing follows a period of record growth for Amazon, including a market capitalization that exceeded $3 trillion for the first time. This surge was driven by strong second-quarter results, specifically in the Amazon Web Services segment, which reported revenue growth of 36.7% to $42.2 billion. Despite these gains, Amazon shares fell approximately 2% in trading following the disclosure.
Reporting on the status of the transaction varies. The Puget Sound Business Journal reported that the shares were sold on Monday, whereas CNBC and Barron's described the disclosure as a filing for an intended sale. Bezos remains one of the company's largest shareholders with a remaining stake of roughly 866 million shares, and he frequently uses proceeds from such sales to fund ventures such as Blue Origin.
