Stellantis CEO Urges EU to Protect Local Automakers
Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa called for stronger European manufacturing regulations as China agrees to halve hybrid car exports to the European Union.
Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa urged European regulators to implement stronger incentives and regulations for carmakers that design and manufacture vehicles within Europe. Speaking ahead of the Paris Motor Show, Filosa advocated for a level playing field and supported Made in Europe legislation, which would require minimum local content for vehicles sold in the regional market.
This push follows a rise in Chinese automotive market share in Europe, which reached 12% as of August 2026. The request comes as Stellantis manages a $70 billion turnaround strategy to combat declining demand and a significant drop in its share price.
In a related development, European Trade Commissioner Maroš Sefčovič announced that China has agreed to halve its exports of hybrid cars to the European Union. A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce stated that both parties have reached consensuses to maintain a stable trade partnership based on a principle of non-discrimination toward Chinese companies.
