Dan Sullivan Pledges to Accept Alaska Senate Results

Senator Dan Sullivan will accept election results despite allegations that Mary Peltola's campaign recruited a spoiler candidate with his name to split Republican votes.

Incumbent Republican Senator Dan S. Sullivan announced he will accept the results of the Alaska Senate race despite a controversy involving a ballot-stacking scheme. A New York Times investigation revealed that political operatives aligned with Democratic candidate Mary Peltola recruited a retired schoolteacher named Daniel J. Sullivan to run as a Republican. The strategy aimed to divert votes away from the incumbent by confusing voters with the identical names.

The revelation prompted the National Republican Senatorial Committee to file a complaint with the Federal Election Commission for campaign finance violations. Simultaneously, the United States Department of Justice filed a lawsuit to block the certification of the race if the spoiler candidate's votes influenced the outcome, though the Government of Alaska is seeking to have that lawsuit dismissed.

While Mary Peltola denies knowledge of the plot, Senator Sullivan accused her of "continually lying to the Alaskan people." Donald Trump and other Republicans have called for Peltola's disqualification and criminal prosecution. The situation has been further complicated by reports that a Republican Super Pac attempted a similar strategy by boosting unviable Democratic candidates during the primaries, leading Representative Jamie Raskin to describe the events as "ridiculous politics."
