Hyundai and Tata Motors Raise Vehicle Prices in India
Hyundai Motor India and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles are increasing car prices in September 2026 to offset rising commodity and operational costs.
Major automakers in India are implementing price hikes to combat rising input costs and macroeconomic instability. Hyundai Motor India Limited announced it will increase vehicle prices by up to 1 per cent across its portfolio effective September 2026. The company cited rising commodity costs, higher operational expenses, and geopolitical uncertainties as the primary drivers for the revision, despite reporting record monthly sales of 75,360 units in July 2026.
Similarly, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles will raise prices for its car and SUV portfolio by up to Rs 25,000 starting September 1, 2026. This hike affects both internal combustion engine and electric vehicles, the latter of which have seen battery costs rise by approximately 10 per cent. This marks the third price increase for Tata Motors in 2026, following previous adjustments in April and July.
These moves follow a similar price hike by Maruti Suzuki in August 2026. Industry leaders, including Tata Motors CEO Shailesh Chandra, have described the current commodity situation as unprecedented. The trend reflects a broader industry struggle with inflationary pressures and foreign exchange volatility, which have compressed profit margins across the sector.
