UK Feminist Groups Shift to Grassroots Organizing Against Far Right

Various women-led organizations and activists across the United Kingdom are working to reunite a divided feminist movement by shifting focus from polarized social media debates to grassroots, in-person community organizing. In response to rising far-right influence and systemic insecurity, groups including Mothership, Northern Heart and Soul, and One Million Women and Girls are facilitating kitchen table conversations and practical political interventions.

These initiatives target tangible issues such as women's safety on public transport, the gender gap in green jobs, and mutual aid for those facing poverty and homelessness. In Belfast, the Women’s Resource and Development Agency has highlighted the role of women in organizing emergency food, shelter, and safety for families during recent civil unrest.

Activists argue that rebuilding local alliances and focusing on shared practical needs is the primary method to counter online radicalization and defeat far-right politics. Efforts include connecting women to local politicians via the North East Mayoral Combined Authority and filling gaps in public services through community work in Wigan.
