Amazon Redesigns Indiana Data Center into AGI SuperCluster

Amazon.com Inc. is redesigning a massive AI data center campus in rural Indiana to create an AGI SuperCluster. This network of high-performance computers is intended to train the company's next frontier AI models under an initiative called AGI Pivot. The project involves consolidating multiple data centers through the overhaul of fiber-optic infrastructure, storage, and networking.

As part of this effort, Amazon is deploying over 6,000 Trainium-powered AI servers. The accelerated timeline is designed to provide the computing capacity necessary to train a new model before the end of 2026, with a potential debut at the re:Invent conference in December. This infrastructure project operates within the same complex as Project Rainier, which serves Anthropic, though Amazon stated the overhaul will not affect those existing servers.

To support these AI demands, Amazon increased its projected capital expenditures for 2026 to $220 billion. CEO Andy Jassy has stated that this level of AI infrastructure investment should generate attractive long-term returns.
