India's Department of Telecommunications Demands 26.83 Crore From Vodafone Idea

The Department of Telecommunications issued a demand notice to Vodafone Idea Limited on July 31, 2026, seeking the payment of 26.83 crore in liquidated damages. The penalty follows an alleged default in minimum network rollout obligations tied to spectrum allocated during the 2022 auctions, as specified in the Notice Inviting Applications 2022 bid document.

Vodafone Idea disclosed the notice in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange, stating that it is reviewing the matter and evaluating its next steps. The company asserted that the demand is not expected to have a material financial or operational impact on its current business activities. To date, the telecommunications provider has not disclosed which specific spectrum bands or circles are associated with the alleged violation.
