Triton Digital Report Shows News Podcast Growth Ahead of Midterms
Triton Digital reports a surge in news podcast consumption and a shift toward personality-led content in its Q2 2026 U.S. Podcast Ranker report.
The Q2 2026 U.S. Podcast Ranker report released by Triton Digital on August 20 reveals a significant shift in American podcast consumption. While comedy remains the dominant genre, capturing 44.5% of the total reach and 29% of the top 200 podcasts, news programming saw the sharpest growth with an 8.4% increase over the first quarter.
This growth is driven by political and opinion-led content as the midterm elections approach, exemplified by The Tucker Carlson Show rising to the ninth position overall. Daryl Battaglia, SVP of Measurement Products and Strategy at Triton Digital, noted that consumers are increasingly seeking hosts who provide analysis and perspective, describing podcasting as the place for the conversation behind the headline.
The report also identifies a Small Reach, Big Spenders Dynamic. Niche independent podcasts in the business and technology sectors are providing advertisers with hyper-concentrated access to high-value demographics, including luxury shoppers and senior decision-makers. These smaller genres are outperforming broader advertising buys in terms of purchase intent.
