MCD Councillors Clash Over Development Funds and Pollution
Municipal Corporation of Delhi councillors from the AAP and BJP clashed during a House session, leading to the adjournment of proceedings and potential suspensions.
Councillors from the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party engaged in a violent confrontation during a Municipal Corporation of Delhi House session on Thursday. The conflict began when AAP members demanded that immediate ward development funds be increased from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
The dispute intensified during a debate on air pollution in Delhi, resulting in chaos where councillors threw water and files. Some members allegedly attempted to damage microphones, including AAP councillor Shagufta Zubair and Leader of Opposition Ankush Narang. The disruptions were further fueled by criticisms from Congress leader Nazia Danish.
Marshals were forced to escort Mayor Pravesh Wahi to safety as the session was adjourned. Wahi referred the incident to the House disciplinary committee to determine if sanctions or suspensions are warranted for the involved councillors. He stated that if the committee recommends suspension, the administration will proceed with that action.
