Jharkhand Government Forms Ministerial Team Amid Recruitment Scam Protests

Chief Minister Hemant Soren's administration formed a cabinet team to negotiate with students protesting alleged recruitment irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations.

The Hemant Soren administration is facing escalating protests and hunger strikes in Ranchi over alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) recruitment examinations. Job aspirants, organized under the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch and supported by the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha, have staged a sit-in at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium since July 29. Protesters demand the cancellation of the 14th JPSC exam, structural reforms, and an independent probe by the CBI or retired high court judges.

In response to massive rallies organized by the Students' Federation of India and the Democratic Youth Federation of India, the government formed a team of Cabinet ministers to discuss concerns with students. Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore stated the government is committed to ensuring justice, though he characterized the irregularities as backdoor appointments rather than traditional paper leaks. Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Police’s Crime Investigation Department has arrested 19 individuals and raided 18 locations, including Palamu, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, and Dhanbad.

While Chief Minister Hemant Soren has offered talks and described paper leaks as a national problem, protesters have rejected closed-door negotiations, demanding transparent public discussions. Demonstrators have threatened a Vidhan Sabha Gherao on August 10 if their demands remain unmet. Opposition leaders from the BJP and AJSU have criticized the government's handling of the crisis, with some calling for President's Rule.
