Rhode Island Representative Enrique Sanchez Threatens ICE Agents

Rhode Island State Representative Enrique Sanchez issued a social media threat against ICE agents, sparking condemnation from the Department of Homeland Security and GOP leadership.

Rhode Island State Representative Enrique Sanchez issued a threat against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in a social media post on July 23, 2026. Sanchez wrote that his efforts to defend community members in Providence and across the state had affected his mental state, stating, "Your day of reckoning will come motherfuckers. I swear to god."

This incident follows a history of aggressive rhetoric from Sanchez, who has previously referred to ICE officers as "Nazi Gestapo thugs" and "Nazi ICE trash thugs." Sanchez, who has served as a state representative since 2022 and works as a case manager for illegal immigrants, has frequently accused the agency of "terrorizing" communities.

The Department of Homeland Security condemned the remarks, asserting that Sanchez should be thanking law enforcement for removing dangerous criminals from the state rather than vilifying them. Allyn Meyers, chair of the Rhode Island GOP, also denounced the post, describing the vow of a "day of reckoning" as reckless and dangerous for law enforcement officers.
