Electronic Arts Misses Bookings Goal Amid $55 Billion Saudi Buyout
Electronic Arts reported first-quarter bookings of $1.35 billion, missing analyst estimates due to declining Battlefield 6 engagement while awaiting a $55 billion acquisition by Saudi Arabia.
Electronic Arts reported first-quarter bookings of $1.35 billion for the period ending June 30, falling short of the $1.48 billion average estimate from analysts. The company attributed the miss to a decline in player engagement for the Battlefield 6 franchise following its launch, which negatively impacted live-service revenue.
Despite the bookings shortfall, the company's quarterly profit rose to $397 million, nearly doubling the $201 million recorded in the previous year. These financial results arrive as the company prepares to be taken private. The European Union has approved a $55 billion acquisition of the publisher by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and a group of investors.
Looking ahead, the company faces further market pressure from Take-Two Interactive. The anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to divert player spending away from other titles, adding to the competitive challenges facing the firm.
