Colin Brown Wins Gananoque Mayoral Election With 63.4 Percent

Colin Brown unseated incumbent mayor John Beddows in Gananoque on Monday night, winning 63.4% of the vote on a platform of affordability.

Town councillor Colin Brown won the mayoral election in Gananoque on Monday night, securing 63.4% of the vote with 1,655 ballots. Brown unseated incumbent mayor John Beddows, who finished last in the four-way race with 5.7% of the vote. Other candidates included Clifford Feltham, who placed second, and former mayor Ted Lojko, who placed third.

Brown campaigned on a platform of transparency and affordability. His proposals include a review of municipal water and wastewater rates, the reopening of the public waste yard, and the implementation of recorded council meetings available online. He emphasized the need to keep property taxes sustainable by distinguishing between municipal needs and wants.

The election also determined the six-member town council. Ben Goernert received the most votes, followed by Vicki Leakey, Matt Harper, Anne-Marie Koiner, Mike O’Callaghan, and Michael Bannister. The overall race focused on municipal spending and the financial pressures residents face due to the cost of living and rising property taxes.
