Kriti Sanon Petitions Delhi High Court Over AI Deepfakes

Actor Kriti Sanon has petitioned the Delhi High Court to protect her personality rights against unauthorized AI-generated content and digital impersonation.

Actor Kriti Sanon has petitioned the Delhi High Court to protect her personality and publicity rights against the unauthorized use of her name, image, and likeness. The plea specifically cites threats from digital impersonation, deepfakes, and artificial intelligence-generated content used for commercial exploitation.

During a hearing on October 16, Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav directed Sanon's counsel, Pravin Anand, to submit a comprehensive compilation of research papers and judicial precedents. The court is using these materials to examine the legal principles governing personality rights and to determine if such disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court's Intellectual Property Division.

Counsel Pravin Anand argued that personality rights must extend to an individual's name, voice, face, image, photographs, and videos. This legal action follows a broader trend of Indian public figures, including Kangana Ranaut and Yuvraj Singh, seeking safeguards against the digital reproduction of their identities.

The court indicated it will issue a comprehensive order after reviewing the submitted research. The matter is scheduled for a further hearing on October 29.
