Reform UK Files No Confidence Motion Against Worcestershire Council Leader

Reform UK has filed a motion of no confidence against Matt Jenkins, the leader of Worcestershire County Council, scheduled for debate and a vote on July 16 at the Pershore Civic Centre. The motion, introduced by Reform UK leader Alan Amos and supported by councillors Sam Bastow and Rob Wharton, asserts that the council has lost confidence in Jenkins and seeks his removal to elect a new leader.
Alan Amos characterized the current administration—a coalition of Green, Liberal Democrat, independent, and Conservative councillors—as a "coalition of chaos." He argued that the largest party in the council has been excluded from democracy, claiming the administration lacks legitimacy. The coalition's early tenure has been marked by instability, including a cabinet reshuffle that resulted in the suspension of deputy leader Adam Kent and the resignation of several Conservative councillors.
Matt Jenkins dismissed the motion as "premature" and "sour grapes," suggesting the challenge is an attempt to play politics before he has conducted his first full council meeting. Reform UK currently holds 22 seats, which is short of the 29 required for a majority. The party previously served as a minority administration before Jenkins took leadership in May.
