KFC Mangaluru Outlet Closed Over Spoiled Chicken Allegations
The Food Safety Division of Karnataka shut down a KFC outlet in Mangaluru after a customer complaint regarding foul-smelling chicken.
The Food Safety Division of Karnataka shut down a KFC outlet in Mangaluru's City Centre Mall following a complaint from former mayor Kavitha Sanil. Sanil reported that her child received a Chicken Peri Peri order that appeared black and smelled foul. During the subsequent inspection, officials discovered frozen chicken with packing dates from March and collected samples of cooking oil and meat for testing at a laboratory in Mysuru.
KFC denied allegations that it served stale chicken, asserting that the information circulating regarding the incident does not depict the true facts. The company stated that its chicken is prepared in-store daily and undergoes stringent safety checks from farm to plate. KFC noted it is reviewing the matter in accordance with legal requirements and maintains that it complies with global quality standards.
The closure occurred as part of a broader enforcement campaign directed by Health Minister U T Khader across Bengaluru and Mysuru. This statewide crackdown has resulted in the seizure of over 1,000 kg of unsafe food, including expired meat from the Rio Meridian and Grand Mercure hotels, and the identification of hygiene violations at government complexes such as Vidhana Soudha.
