Ubisoft's Black Flag Resynced Sells 2 Million First-Day Copies
Ubisoft released Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced on July 9, achieving record Steam concurrent players and 2 million first-day sales despite save-file bugs and microtransaction backlash.
The remake of the 2013 pirate adventure, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, launched on July 9, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Ubisoft reported that the title sold over two million copies within its first 24 hours, setting a franchise record on Steam with nearly 100,000 concurrent players. The game was rebuilt using the Anvil engine, featuring ray-traced lighting and a revamped combat system that emphasizes parries and instant kills. To modernize the experience, the developer removed most modern-day story segments and forced stealth penalties.
Led by Ubisoft Singapore, the project integrated several local easter eggs, including a Singapore-shaped island and durian-related events. While critical reception was generally positive, players criticized the inclusion of cosmetic microtransactions and DLCs costing up to £76.21. Technical issues also emerged shortly after launch, with journalist Stephen Totilo reporting a critical bug that could wipe hours of gameplay progress; Ubisoft confirmed a fix is in development.
Commercial success has provided a financial cushion for the company following previous failures like Skull & Bones, though the launch coincided with layoffs and strikes at Ubisoft Barcelona. Game Director Richard Knight has since confirmed that a New Game Plus mode is a high priority for post-launch updates. The game also contains teasers for the upcoming Assassin's Creed Hexe, expected in 2027.
