Fiat Suspends Electric Passenger Car Imports to Australia

Fiat has suspended the import of new passenger vehicles into Australia, specifically the Fiat 500e electric hatchback and the Abarth 500e electric hot hatch. The decision follows a sharp decline in sales performance, with the brand recording only 144 passenger vehicle sales in the first half of 2026, including just 13 units sold in the previous month.

Stellantis Group, the parent company of Fiat, stated the move is part of an ongoing portfolio and product planning process to assess market demand. The company noted that existing stock has largely been sold through and it is not planning additional orders while evaluating future product opportunities. This shift occurs as the Australian market trends toward affordable electric and hybrid vehicles from Chinese manufacturers such as BYD, Geely, and Leapmotor, which have put pressure on traditional European and Japanese brands.

Stellantis clarified that Fiat has not closed its doors in Australia and will continue to support its dealer network and existing customers. While the passenger car range is suspended, the Fiat Professional commercial vehicle range, including the Ducato and Scudo vans, remains unaffected and will continue to be available in the local market.
