Australian Stock Market Rises as Export Prices Surge

The S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 0.36 percent on Thursday following positive Wall Street cues and strong growth in mining and technology sectors.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 0.36 percent to 8,879.00 on Thursday, October 29, 2026, following positive cues from Wall Street. Growth was primarily driven by the banking, technology, energy, and mining sectors.

Individual company performance varied significantly. Mesoblast shares surged more than 13 percent after the biopharmaceutical company released a strong first-quarter activity report. Conversely, Champion Iron shares fell nearly 16 percent following the report of a widened net loss in its half-yearly financial results.

Economic data released alongside market movements showed Australia's export prices rose 1.4 percent in the third quarter of 2026, marking the fastest increase since late 2025. During the same period, import prices fell 1.1 percent, a result that missed market expectations for an increase.
