South Florida Regional Transportation Authority Raises Tri-Rail Fares

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) will implement a 10% fare increase for Tri-Rail effective October 1, 2026. The adjustment applies to passes and one-way fares and follows a public hearing held on June 26, 2026, where the SFRTA Governing Board approved the measure.

This price hike comes as the rail system, which serves Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, faces a severe funding crisis involving $60 million in stalled state funding. Despite reaching a record 4.5 million passenger rides this year, the agency requires additional revenue to maintain service stability. Discounted fares will remain available for eligible passengers.

Deputy Executive Director Diane Hernandez Del Calvo stated that the fare adjustment is one of several components intended to support the long-term financial sustainability of the system. She noted that Tri-Rail continues to provide an important and affordable transportation option for residents, commuters, and visitors throughout the region.
