Social Security Administration Sets 2027 Benefit Payment Schedule

The Social Security Administration has established the benefit payment schedule for 2027, detailing distribution dates for retirement, survivor, disability, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries.

For beneficiaries who began receiving payments after May 1997, checks are distributed on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of each month, determined by the recipient's birth date. Supplemental Security Income payments generally arrive on the first of the month, though dates shift to the preceding business day if the first falls on a weekend or holiday. Specifically, SSI-only recipients will receive benefits for May, August, and January 2028 at the end of the previous month.

Beneficiaries who started receiving payments before May 1997, as well as those receiving both Social Security and SSI, typically receive their benefits on the third of the month. For the start of the new cycle, all these groups will receive their January 2027 payments on Friday, December 31, 2026.
