Amazon Explores AI Content Marketplace for Media Publishers
Amazon is considering a centralized marketplace that allows publishers to license their content directly to artificial intelligence developers to ensure legally sourced training data.
Amazon.com, Inc. is exploring the creation of a centralized content marketplace that would enable media publishers and content creators to license their material directly to artificial intelligence companies. Internal slides from Amazon Web Services (AWS) circulated to publishing executives ahead of a February 10, 2026, conference grouped the proposed platform with core AI tools such as Bedrock and QuickSight.
The initiative aims to provide AI developers with a legally safer alternative to scraping copyrighted data, which has led to an increase in infringement lawsuits. By providing authorized access to premium content, the platform would offer publishers a sustainable revenue stream through commissions, mitigating the impact of declining web traffic caused by AI-generated search summaries.
An Amazon spokesperson did not confirm specific plans but noted the company's innovative relationships with publishers across its business units. This potential move follows the recent launch of the Publisher Content Marketplace by Microsoft and licensing efforts by OpenAI with organizations such as News Corp and the Associated Press.
