Seoul Court Rejects Tesla Full Self-Driving Refund Lawsuit
The Seoul Central District Court denied refund requests from 88 Tesla owners, ruling the company did not promise fully autonomous driving without human intervention.
The Seoul Central District Court rejected a lawsuit filed by 88 Tesla owners seeking full refunds for the company's Full Self-Driving (FSD) driver-assistance software. The court ruled that Tesla did not breach its contractual obligations, concluding that the FSD option did not promise fully autonomous driving without human intervention.
The judge stated that the delivery of additional features depends on technological advances and regulatory approvals. The court found that buyers were aware some functions could take significant time to become available. It further noted that Tesla had already provided basic and enhanced Autopilot functions, and recently added traffic sign recognition and city-driving capabilities to older vehicles equipped with Hardware 3 computers.
This ruling provides a legal victory for Tesla as the company faces similar international challenges regarding delays in delivering self-driving capabilities promised by CEO Elon Musk.
