German Unemployment Rises to 3.01 Million in September

Germany's number of unemployed people rose by 12,000 in seasonally adjusted terms to 3.01 million in September. This increase significantly exceeded the 1,000-person rise predicted by analysts, though the seasonally adjusted jobless rate remained stable at 6.4%.

While the seasonally adjusted figures rose, the overall unadjusted number of unemployed individuals fell slightly below 3 million for the first time in three months.

Andrea Nahles, head of the labour office, described the typical autumn pickup in the labour market as sluggish this year. She stated that "the economic improvement is not yet reaching the labour market."
