UAE Expands Energy Infrastructure to Bypass Strait of Hormuz

The United Arab Emirates is investing in new pipelines and shipping fleets to secure energy exports amid potential conflict between Iran and a US-Israeli coalition.

The United Arab Emirates is enhancing the protection of its energy infrastructure and investing in new export routes, shipping fleets, and overseas storage capacity. These measures aim to prepare the country for a potential conflict between Iran and a US-Israeli coalition.

Energy Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei announced the strategic shift during the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference. To reduce reliance on the Strait of Hormuz, the UAE is constructing a new pipeline to Fujairah, which is intended to double crude oil capacity by next year. Al-Mazrouei stated that while the course of the war is unpredictable, the country must be more resilient.

This infrastructure push follows a period of record-high crude oil and condensate exports, which occurred shortly after the UAE exited the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.
