India Seeks ₹10,000 Crore for Gwalior Telecom Manufacturing Zone

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav led a series of investors' meets and roadshows in Mumbai on August 3 and 4, 2026, to secure funding for India's first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior. The initiative follows a July 30 Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of India and the Government of Madhya Pradesh to establish a world-class ecosystem for research, development, and indigenous manufacturing.

The government aims to transition India from a services-led nation to a product-led manufacturing hub to reduce import dependence and boost exports. Total investments for the TMZ are expected to exceed ₹10,000 crore. Following an initial roundtable in New Delhi, the government has already secured ₹3,500 crore in commitments, a move projected to create approximately 14,000 jobs.

During the Mumbai events, Scindia emphasized the need for a dedicated vertical for the telecom industry to create intellectual property and increase value addition. Chief Minister Yadav highlighted the state's ease of doing business and operational environment to attract partners for the Gwalior project, which seeks to replicate the growth seen in India's mobile phone manufacturing sector.
