Pakistan Weekly Inflation Rises to 9.29 Percent Annually

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics reported that weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), rose by 0.28 percent for the week ending August 6, 2026. The SPI for the combined consumption group increased to 358.60 points from 357.61 points the previous week, resulting in a year-on-year increase of 9.29 percent.

Price hikes affected 20 of 51 essential commodities. Onions saw the sharpest weekly increase at 10.14 percent, followed by chicken at 9.19 percent. In contrast, nine items saw price declines, led by tomatoes, which fell by 6.82 percent weekly. Twenty-two items remained unchanged in price.

Annual data shows more drastic shifts in commodity costs. Tomato prices surged by 178.03 percent and onion prices rose by 84.65 percent year-on-year. However, some items saw significant annual declines, including potatoes, which dropped by 30.65 percent, and sugar, which fell by 17.60 percent.

Inflationary pressures impacted all income brackets. The lowest-income households, earning up to Rs17,732 per month, experienced the highest weekly increase at 0.43 percent.
