IEBC Conducts Ol Kalou By-Election With 50.8 Percent Turnout
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission managed the Ol Kalou by-election with a 50.8 percent turnout and expects results by midnight.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) conducted a parliamentary by-election in Ol Kalou on July 16, 2026, reporting a voter turnout of 50.8 percent. To ensure security and transparency, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon implemented strict regulations, including a ban on photographing marked ballot papers with fines up to Sh1 million and a prohibition on political party attire at polling sites.
Commission officials reported that the voting process proceeded smoothly across most stations. Commissioner Hassan Noor Hassan indicated that the winning member of parliament would likely be announced around midnight. He urged political actors to maintain peace and order until the conclusion of the exercise.
Following the close of polls, Commissioner Ann Nderitu dismissed calls from political leaders for supporters to guard polling stations. She advised citizens to return home and allow only accredited agents, observers, and media to oversee the counting process to maintain transparency and order.
