Finland GDP Growth Slows to 0.4 Percent in Q2

Statistics Finland reported a 0.4 percent sequential GDP increase for the second quarter of 2026, marking a deceleration from the first quarter.

Statistics Finland reported that the national economy grew by 0.4 percent sequentially in the second quarter of 2026. While this represents the third consecutive period of growth, the pace slowed from the 0.8 percent increase recorded in the first quarter and fell short of the 0.9 percent flash estimate.

The government agency revised the yearly GDP growth rate downward to 1.6 percent from an initial estimate of 2.5 percent. This deceleration was driven largely by a 35.3 percent drop in public investments, which the agency attributed to a lack of fighter aircraft deliveries, alongside a 0.3 percent decrease in government consumption.

Net foreign demand provided a counterbalance to the domestic decline. Exports increased by 5.7 percent during the period, supported by a significant vessel delivery.
