Romania and Bangladesh Report July Inflation Declines
Romania and Bangladesh both reported annual inflation drops in July 2026, though Romania's central bank raised its year-end inflation forecast to 5.5%.
Annual inflation rates declined in both Romania and Bangladesh during July 2026. In Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics reported that inflation fell to an eight-month low of 8.32%, down from 9.16% in June. This decline was primarily driven by food inflation dropping to 7.16%, though economists warned that recent electricity tariff hikes might not yet be fully reflected in the figures.
In Romania, the National Institute of Statistics reported that the annual inflation rate fell to approximately 8.2%, down from 10.4% in June. This represents a one-year low, although the figure remained higher than the expected 7.9%. The decline was supported by moderating food inflation, which fell to 5.0%, and non-food goods, which dropped to 7.9%.
Despite the July dip, Romanian services prices grew sharply at a rate of 13.7%, with rents specifically rising by 42.48%. In response to these trends, the National Bank of Romania revised its year-end 2026 inflation forecast upward to 5.5% from a previous estimate of 3.9%. The bank projects a further decrease to 2.9% by the end of 2027.
